Sibilla is a digital stereo oscillator that aims to traslate into music the beauty and harshness of a semi-barren mountain. Its sound is sculpted by various saw and sine waves running through intricate delay networks, altered by LFOs, white noises and creating constructive and destructive interferences.

Both stereo channels are the output stages of two feedback audio loops.

Each loop is made up by a main sub sinusoidal wave oscillator and two saw and sine waves with frequencies affected by the generation of harmonics (right channel) and subharmonics (left channel). All waves have different phases whose offset is constantly affected by minor variations created by two pairs of grains randomly fluctuating within the waves amplitude spectrum and being sampled at a certain speed.

Waves then meet to each other to a “common point”, together with two white noise sources, creating constructive and destructive interferences constantly affected by two LFOs movements.

Interferences are then run into a resonant low pass filter and then distributed to four different delay lines from which they are fed back into the audio loops at different time intervals depending on the grains movements.

The two free running LFOs are sine waves by default. In order to choose different waveforms and enter the LFO Settings mode, double click the BOOST button: the BOOST LED will now start blinking. Now you can click on the center button to navigate through the different available options:

  • Sinusoidal (default);
  • Ramp Up;
  • Ramp Down;
  • Sine + Oct;
  • Sine + 3rd;
  • Freeze: LFOs, and so the stereophony, are freezed. In this mode the LFO knob acts as a balancer, letting you adjust the position of the two audio channels in the stereophonic field.

EXP-FX, Il Sole e la Luna (eg. The Sun and the Moon), is an expansion module for Sibilla, aiming to let you admire the same panorama under two different glows. Depending on the Sibilla uploaded firmware, EXP-FX can either act as an actual Sibilla expander, giving you direct control on more Sibilla’s parameters, or can turn your module into and effect, allowing you to process your favourite oscillator, samples and instruments the same way Sibilla processes its internal waveforms.

EXP (il Sole)

Expands your Sibilla by giving you more control on the internal envelope with Attack and Release parameters and filter resonant frequency (Q).

FX (la Luna)

With configurable eurorack/line stereo inputs, turns your Sibilla into an intricate stereo pitch shifting delay effect. Split your incoming sound in two separate pitch shifted tracks whose stereophony is affected by LFOs movements, white noise, delay lines and sampled bits of audio.

  1. TRIG: Accepts both trigger and gate signals to trigger the internal sub sine oscillator. If left unpatched, the sub sine oscillator goes into drone mode and outputs a continuous sound;
  2.  L (mono) and R audio outputs;
  3. CLIMB & V/oct: Sets the pitch of the internal sub sine oscillator sound;
  4. RISE: Pitch-shift (from low to high pitch) the incoming sound on the left channel;
  5. FALL: Pitch-shift (from high to low pitch) the incoming sound on the right channel;
  6. UNDERWOOD: Sets the volume of the internal sub sine oscillator;
  7. RESONANCE: Sets the cutoff resonant frequency of the internal LP filter, going roughly from 0Hz to 10kHz;
  8. BACKDROP: Controls the amount of white noise to be added on both audio channels;
  9. LFO *: Sets left LFO speed. Right LFO is always twice faster than the left one;
  10. GRAINS: Sets the starting position of the audio bits to be recorded into the buffer size;
  11. BOOST: Set LFO rate range: 0.3 – 5Hz (Boost off), 3.3 – 150Hz (boost on). Double click for lfo mode;
  12. OUTPUT x1 & x2: Output either the stereo LFOs movement or the grains fluctuations (0 – 5V);
  13. OUTPUT BUTTON: Sets the outputs between LFOs (LED off) and grains fluctuation (LED on). A double click activate/deactivate the grains movement. When the fluctuation is deactivated, grains position freezes to the last recorded one;
  14. DRY/WET: Controls the proportion between the incoming non-processed and processed signal;
  15. BUFFER SIZE: Controls the real time sampling window length. It’s nearly 100ms when the knob is fully closed and goes up to 1s with the knob fully clockwise;
  16. FEEDBACK: Controls the amount of sampled and pitch shifted audio sent back to the sampler;
  17. FREEZE: Manually freeze the audio buffer to the last recorded signal. The buffer can also be freezed and unfreezed with a trigger signal. While freezed, the buffer size can still be modified;

LFO MODE

In this mode the LFO knob acts as a balancer, letting you adjust the position of the two audio channels in the stereophonic field. Once you’re ready, double click again the BOOST button to exit the new LFO Settings Mode.
