EXP-FX, Il Sole e la Luna (eg. The Sun and the Moon), is an expansion module for Sibilla, aiming to let you admire the same panorama under two different glows. Depending on the Sibilla uploaded firmware, EXP-FX can either act as an actual Sibilla expander, giving you direct control on more Sibilla’s parameters, or can turn your module into and effect, allowing you to process your favourite oscillator, samples and instruments the same way Sibilla processes its internal waveforms.
EXP (il Sole)
Expands your Sibilla by giving you more control on the internal envelope with Attack and Release parameters and filter resonant frequency (Q).
FX (la Luna)
With configurable eurorack/line stereo inputs, turns your Sibilla into an intricate stereo pitch shifting delay effect. Split your incoming sound in two separate pitch shifted tracks whose stereophony is affected by LFOs movements, white noise, delay lines and sampled bits of audio.
6HP • 2mm anodised brushed aluminum panel • SILVER • BLACK
FX takes incoming audio signals (eurorack and line levels) and processes them in the same way Sibilla processes its own waveforms. Rise and Fall can independently pitch-shift the left and right audio channels which then pass through a resonant LP filter and are mixed with a white noise source. Their movement into the stereophonic field is controlled by two free running LFOs while tiny bits of audio are sampled, played and delayed in the background.
Everything regarding FX is written with white (black panel) or black (silver panel) graphics on the module faceplate.
The two free running LFOs are sine waves by default. In order to choose different waveforms and enter the LFO Settings mode, double click the BOOST button: the BOOST LED will now start blinking. Now you can click on the center button to navigate through the different available options:
- Sinusoidal (default);
- Ramp Up;
- Ramp Down;
- Sine + Oct;
- Sine + 3rd;
- Freeze: LFOs, and so the stereophony, are freezed. In this mode the LFO knob acts as a balancer, letting you adjust the position of the two audio channels in the stereophonic field.
Attack, Release and Q: everything needed to finally complete Sibilla as a synth voice, allowing you to space between long-release droning pads to crazy and noisy percussive sounds. Everything regarding EXP is written with golden graphics on the module faceplate.

- TRIG: Accepts both trigger and gate signals to trigger the internal sub sine oscillator. If left unpatched, the sub sine oscillator goes into drone mode and outputs a continuous sound;
- L (mono) and R audio outputs;
- CLIMB & V/oct: Sets the pitch of the internal sub sine oscillator sound;
- RISE: Pitch-shift (from low to high pitch) the incoming sound on the left channel;
- FALL: Pitch-shift (from high to low pitch) the incoming sound on the right channel;
- UNDERWOOD: Sets the volume of the internal sub sine oscillator;
- RESONANCE: Sets the cutoff resonant frequency of the internal LP filter, going roughly from 0Hz to 10kHz;
- BACKDROP: Controls the amount of white noise to be added on both audio channels;
- LFO *: Sets left LFO speed. Right LFO is always twice faster than the left one;
- GRAINS: Sets the starting position of the audio bits to be recorded into the buffer size;
- BOOST: Set LFO rate range: 0.3 – 5Hz (Boost off), 3.3 – 150Hz (boost on). Double click for lfo mode;
- OUTPUT x1 & x2: Output either the stereo LFOs movement or the grains fluctuations (0 – 5V);
- OUTPUT BUTTON: Sets the outputs between LFOs (LED off) and grains fluctuation (LED on). A double click activate/deactivate the grains movement. When the fluctuation is deactivated, grains position freezes to the last recorded one;
- L (Mono) and R audio inputs
- Line input gain and led indicator
- DRY/WET: Controls the proportion between the incoming non-processed and processed signal;
- BUFFER SIZE: Controls the real time sampling window length. It’s nearly 100ms when the knob is fully closed and goes up to 1s with the knob fully clockwise;
- FEEDBACK: Controls the amount of sampled and pitch shifted audio sent back to the sampler;
- FREEZE: Manually freeze the audio buffer to the last recorded signal. The buffer can also be freezed and unfreezed with a trigger signal. While freezed, the buffer size can still be modified;
LFO MODE
The two free running LFOs are sine waves by default. In order to choose different waveforms and enter the LFO Settings mode, double click the BOOST button: the BOOST LED will now start blinking.

- Freeze: LFOs, and so the stereophony, are freezed.
In this mode the LFO knob acts as a balancer, letting you adjust the position of the two audio channels in the stereophonic field. Once you’re ready, double click again the BOOST button to exit the new LFO Settings Mode.

- Attack: Sets the duration of the envelope attack stage. This is the time it takes for the envelope level to go from zero to the maximum level when a gate signal is received on Sibilla’s trigger input. The duration is nearly zero with the knob fully closed, and 5 seconds when the knob is fully clockwise;
- Release: Sets the duration of the envelope release stage. This is the time it takes for the envelope to go from its maximum level back to 0 after the gate is released (max length is 5 seconds);
3. Q: Sets the peak level of Sibilla’s resonant LP filter (Resonance). When fully counterclockwise, resonant peak will be rounded and become more apparent with higher settings, depending on the harmonics created by Rise and Fall parameters of Sibilla)
